| dc.description.abstract | Background: The purpose of the study is to explore the preferred characteristics of wheelchair among person with disability. The study was also conducted to know about disable person’s choice, satisfaction and expectation from the wheelchair they use. Objectives: To explore and understand preferred wheelchair characteristics among person with disability. Methodology: A qualitative approach (phenomenology) is used to conduct the study where 15 participants with some sort of disability who use wheelchair on permanent basis came for follow-ups to Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) were participated selected by purposive sampling method. The data were collected by using semi-structured open ended questionnaire form and thematic analysis to determine key theme arising from individual participant. Results: Participants mentioned their preferences based on the factors influencing their choice and expectations such as Personalized comfort for inclusive living, Effortless motion that prioritizing ease in wheelchair mobility, Accessible by design which prioritize features that enhance daily living. They mentioned about barrier free environment and convenient accommodation as their preference regarding selecting a wheelchair. They also remarked that customization in a wheelchair according to user’s preference enhance the quality of life of the person with disability. Conclusion: This study highlighted the wheelchair user’s preference while choosing a wheelchair. Participants felt that if their opinion is respected and valued by the government as well as the wheelchair manufacturer and health professionals, inclusive living among the person with disability will be encouraged and won’t be compromised.
