Level of depression, anxiety and stress among the persons with amputee

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the level of depression, anxiety and stress among the persons with amputee. Objectives: To identify the level of depression, anxiety & stress among the persons with amputee . To explore the Sociodemographic information of the participants. Methodology: The study was conducted by using cross sectional method. Total 70 samples were selected conveniently for this study from Prosthetics and Orthotics Department, CRP, Savar. All data were collected through face-to face interview and over phone by using a semi-structured research question technique. Results: Among 70 participants maximum age was 74 years and as follows minimum age was 16 years where mean age calculation was 39.94 ± 13.95 years. Among 70 participants 55.70% had extremely severe depression level, 34.30% had severe depression, 7.10% had moderate severity and 2.90% had mild depression level. 91.40% had extremely severe anxiety level and 8.60% had severe anxiety level. 52.90% had moderate stress level, where it decreases in 21.40% having severe stress level, 15.70% had extremely severe stress level, where mild and moderate respective to 7.10% of total number of the participants. A significant association was observed between age category and depression (χ2: 28.272, P- value: 0.001) and stress (χ2: 24.034, P- value: 0.020). Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that depression, anxiety and stress are commonly experienced after amputation. The amputee group should have access to the amputee care program which will provide psychiatric care alongside rehabilitation. Key words: Amputation, Depression, Anxiety, Stress Word count: 9,900
